Husband and Wife Discover They’re Twins

Here’s an intense experience I don’t think anyone would want to have: Lord Alton, a British official, says a judge told him he recently annulled a British couple’s marriage after they discovered they were twins at birth.

The brother and sister were separated as infants and adopted by separate parents.

Alton is not naming the couple or the judge, but he publicized the case because he is pushing to mandate the inclusion of more information on birth certificates for adopted children in Britain. Right now the only info required is the mother’s identity.

Regarding the couple, Alton says, "They were never told that they were twins. They met later in life and felt an inevitable attraction, and the judge had to deal with the consequences of the marriage that they entered into and all the issues of their separation."

After settling into a life together, and doing the things that married people do, imagine discovering you are siblings. Or don’t.

But it certainly raises all kinds of interesting questions about attraction, family and more, doesn’t it? Is the ultimate attraction to those just like us? I wonder how well they got along before the discovery...

(NOTE: If either of you, the twins, happens to be a reader of this newsletter, send me an answer to this question at the contact page. I promise I won’t share, unless you allow me too. ;) )

The How of Happiness

According to the new book, The How of Happiness: A Scientific Approach to Getting the Life You Want,, the key factors in determining happiness are circumstances (10%), genetics (50 percent) and intentional experiences (40 percent).

Yet people get so bogged down in trying to change the 10%, their circumstances – “If I lose ten more pounds I will be happier” and “If I get that promotion I will be happier” and “If I become a millionaire I will be happier.”

From a scientific standpoint as well as a common-sense one, your real energy should instead be invested in doing vibrant and uplifting things to discover who you already are and to celebrate your life now. That, of course, is the point of the free (“deep-in-the-present-tense of the experiences”) newsletter and website!

What Does Mariusz Pudzianowski, the World’s Official Strongest Man, Eat?

Mariusz Pudzianowski – but you can call him Pudzian or the Dominator, two of his common nicknames – once again won the World’s Strongest Man competition in 2007. (You know the competition, where they haul refrigerators on their shoulders, pull trucks with a harness and toss 50 pound kegs over a thirteen foot high wall, among other events.)

Mariusz, who is a Polish citizen but also a part-time resident of Chicago, has now won the event four times, tying the record for most wins with two other athletes.

He has been training for strength sports since the age of 13, and as you can imagine, his training and dedication are intense: he works out twice a day every day (check out the workout regime, and a host of pictures, at Mariusz Pudzianowski’s website.)

In addition to the four World’s Strongest Man championships and other event accomplishments, the results of all that training include a rock-solid 315 pound body, a 57 inch chest, 31 inch thighs (each), 22 inch arms around the biceps, and a 21 inch neck.

A few personal bests include bench pressing 800 pounds, squatting 794 pounds, and deadlifting 904 pounds.

But what does Mariusz Pudzianowski eat?

“My energy comes from my diet,” Mariusz says. ”Breakfast is 10 eggs and 2-3 pounds of bacon. Between meals, I eat lots of candy…I need it for energy. Lunch, at 1 or 2 p.m., is a double meal of a Polish pork chop, sauerkraut and potatoes. An hour later, I work out, then take lots of supplements: magnesium, creatine, amino acids, all that stuff, and more chocolate.Dinner is whatever meat I can get: steaks, pork chops, bacon, plus more sauerkraut and potatoes. [After I work out] I have a protein shake and more chocolate.”

So if all of that sounds like how you would like to be able to eat, you now know what you need to do to accommodate for it. Start lifting that refrigerator in your kitchen today!
