The Invisible Gorilla - Interview with the
Co-Author of the Famous Selective Attention Study and Book that Will Spark Awareness
... and Controversy

by Brian Vaszily, Founder of IntenseExperiences.com

Why do I urge you to read one of the most eye-opening books I’ve ever experienced, The Invisible Gorilla: And Other Ways Our Intuitions Deceive Us, about selective attention and so much more?

Why do I urge you to watch the short segments of my interview below with Invisible Gorilla author, psychology professor and selective attention expert Dan Simons? Well…

  • If you firmly believe you should trust your intuition …
  • If you find yourself drawn to confident people …
  • If you believe Hillary Clinton is a liar, or that George W. Bush lied about 9/11, and that politicians are always liars in general …
  • If you really do want to live longer, and be more aware of yourself and the world around you while you are at it…
  • If you are open to challenging insights about the highly emotional topic of the potential link between vaccines and autism
  • If you are a big fan of Malcolm Gladwell and his books like “Blink” (but also consider yourself an intelligent person open to some startling insights that fly in the face of what Malcolm Gladwell presents)…
  • If you wonder if listening to Mozart and similar tactics really can make you smarter…
  • If you truly want to invest your money wisely versus falling prey to money-draining illusions that seem like sound advice…
  • If you want to dramatically increase your chances of avoiding car crashes and other dangerous accidents …
  • If you’ve ever been involved in any kind of law trial in court, or work in the field of law…
  • If you’ve ever seen one of the most famous and startling psychological experiments of the last fifteen years, known as The Invisible Gorilla (if you haven’t, check it out below)…
  • If in your business and career you deeply believe in making decisions from your gut
  • If you have ever remembered something in your past vividly only to discover that others don’t remember what you remember at all…
  • If you REALLY want to avoid getting tricked by the sinister marketing and advertising that is so prevalent today …

  • Then do not miss The Invisible Gorilla, but when you read it, prepare to have so much of what you think you know turned on its head.

Yes, the insights you will discover in The Invisible Gorilla will absolutely challenge you. If you’re the type who is stubbornly fixed and firm in your beliefs about things and you’re not into expanding your mind and experiencing personal growth in the truest sense, then don’t read this book.

But if you do want to live longer, live safer, spend and invest your money more wisely, be more aware of yourself and the world around you, and in the process reduce stress and depression and that feeling that you don’t enough control of your own life…

Then read The Invisible Gorilla: And Other Ways Our Intuitions Deceive Us.

I recently interviewed Dr. Daniel Simons, co-author of the book, professor of psychology at the University of Illinois – Champaign and selective attention expert. I encourage you to turn the volume up high on your computer and delve into the segments of my interview with Simons below … and then get yourself a copy of The Invisible Gorilla and prepare to have your perspective on many things shifted profoundly.

The Illusion of Attention – Half of All People Miss the Gorilla!

The Invisible Gorilla book gets its title from one of the most famous psychology experiments of the last fifteen years, which is also known as “The Gorillas in Our Midst” study, led by Daniel Simons and book co-author Christopher Chabris. You are already “in” on the experiment after reading the following … sorry … but you likely will be stunned to know that half of all people completely miss seeing the woman in a gorilla costume!

This illusion of attention is the focus of the first section of The Invisible Gorilla, and as indicated by the study, it happens to us far more in our lives than we realize … or like to admit. Of course this looking but not seeing what is there has profound implications in your life, such as when driving. What Simons discusses below and expands on in the book can quite literally save your life.

Be sure to also listen to the interview below about the driving directions study … I think you’ll agree that so many people not realizing the person they were talking to completely changed is astounding.

The Illusion of Memory and the So-Called Hillary Rodham Clinton Lie

One of the most fascinating sections of The Invisible Gorilla is how extensively people’s memories can deceive them. People commonly remember events and episodes of their lives vividly that never really occurred. In my case, for example, as a child, we had several dogs and cats, and I can vividly recall our home (our furniture, our clothes) being severely infested with fleas and having to bug-bomb the entire house … but my mother and sister have no such recollection and insist the memory is not true.

In the next two sections of my interview with Dan Simons, he discusses how fallible our memories can be, focusing on a very famous “lie” that Hillary Rodham Clinton told, a very famous “lie” that George W. Bush told (and that many 9/11 conspiracy theorists use to support their claims), an amazing study on misremembering the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, and more.

    The Illusion of Knowledge –
Malcolm Gladwell Blink & Trusting Intuition Taken Too Far

In The Invisible Gorilla, Dan Simons and his co-author Christopher Chabris make a strong substantiated case that the notion of trusting your intuition -- or as the very popular author Malcolm Gladwell labels it in his book Blink, "rapid cognition" -- has been taken too far. They vividly portray how this poses a host of risks to both individuals and organizations.

They note, "The key to successful decision-making, we believe, is knowing when to trust your intuition and when to be wary of it and do the hard work of thinking things through." The Invisible Gorilla is, amongst other things, a guide on how to determine those situations where you may not be thinking things through, much to the detriment of your health and happiness, and therefore perhaps ought to be.

If you are a strong believer in "going with your gut feelings," rapid cognition, instinct, intuition, or Malcolm Gladwell -- but you are also a person open to new knowledge that can shift your perspective to your greater benefit -- you will especially want to read The Invisible Gorilla.

Below are two segments of my interview with Dan Simons well worth watching where he discusses this concept of intuition versus thinking things through:

How to Avoid Celebrity Endorsements Advertising & Other Marketing Tricks

The Illusion of Cause – Vaccines and Autism

Another one of the most fascinating and important sections of the book - a section that may also be most challenging for many people - is about how we commonly think we're seeing patterns and draw conclusions, how we "infer causal relationships from coincidences," and are so quick to believe that "earlier events cause later ones."

Dan Simons discusses the controversial and emotional topic of the potential link between vaccines and autism below and in greater depth in The Invisible Elephant book, amongst other engaging examples. (If vaccines and autism are personally important to you, I realize it is a very emotional and personal topic, but please don't draw conclusions until you've read Simons' in-depth insights in the book!)

Key Benefits of Reading The Invisible Gorilla

If you only have time to watch a few key segments of my interview with selective attention expert and Invisible Gorilla co-author Dan Simons, watch these three below. You will get a solid idea of how and why reading the book -- even though it may challenge some commonly held assumptions -- can improve and even save your life:

How to Live Longer, Avoid Getting Tricked by Medical Studies and Other Invisible Gorilla Benefits

How to Read The Book About the Invisible Gorilla Video

How to Stop Media Lies, Advertising Scams, and Political Lies from Harming You

What Others are Saying About "The Invisible Gorilla"

"Chabris and Simons' experiments have become classics, and their influence extends well beyond psychology, with implications for our understanding of consciousness and rationality." - Steven Pinker, author of "How the Mind Works"

"An owner's manual for the human mind!" - Daniel Gilbert, Harvard University professor of psychology and New York Times bestselling author of "Stumbling on Happiness"

"Clever, illuminating, by turns shocking and delightful, this book, if you take it to heart, will change a lot of your bad habits and could even change your life." - Margaret Heffernan, CEO and author of "Women on Top"
